One of my intentions this year is to minimize my carbon footprint, something I’m going to have to get really creative about as long as my day gig takes me on a forty-plus-mile commute five days a week and my weekend gig is 70 miles away from home, one way.
After a ten-day break that included three no-driving days and three more minimal-driving days, getting back out on the road today was especially frustrating. Unless I move closer to work (not gonna happen for the current day gig), start working at home (in the works), or get a smaller, more fuel-efficient car (just paid mine off a few months ago, so that’s on the back burner for now), I’m going to have to recycle a whole lot of stuff to offset the gas I’m burning every day just to get to work.
I wasn’t quite at the “why bother” stage, but I was feeling as if, even if I never drove again, my planet-saving efforts were a little like trying to empty the ocean with a teaspoon.
It reminded me that we can all be a hummingbird, and inspired me to keep flapping my wings.
Will you be a hummingbird with me? I’d love to hear how.
