Dorothy's ruby slippersYou already have exactly what you need right now.

I’ve been saying this a lot lately.

Sounds so coach-y, doesn’t it?

But it’s true, and I’ve said it so many times lately –  to clients, prospective clients, total strangers at an introvert’s nightmare of a speed networking event (worthwhile and kind of fun, even if I am still recovering) – it’s beginning to feel like my mantra.

I even hear it in my head in a guru-type voice, complete with temple bells chiming softly in the background.

You already have exactly what you need right now. <dinnnnnggggg>

Oh, I hear it alright.

I just don’t want to listen.

Why look inward when it’s such fun to scurry down rabbit holes, looking for things like new accounting systems, analytics for my web site, and strategies for taming email, calendar, and scheduling overload? Especially when what I really needed to do was something to meet a writing deadline. Like, oh, I don’t know, maybe even . . . to sit my backside down and write.

After I’d frittered away the better part of three afternoons only to discover that the systems I already have in place really do serve me best, I finally got the message.

You already have exactly what you need right now.

Sometimes I hate it when a metaphor like that practically slaps me in the face, even when I also love how elegantly it takes me back to the truth.

You already have exactly what you need right now.

Yes, we do.

It’s high time we shared our bounty and brilliance with the world. Because even if we need something more, or different, in the future, once we get there, it’ll be right now.

When we’ll still have exactly what we need.

Spread the love

  1. Flo! You are so right with this one, it gave me the shivers. Thanks for being brilliantly human.

    1. Thanks, Hatt. I figure as long as I keep resisting following my own advice, I’ll always have plenty to write about. 😉

  2. […] Just a few weeks ago, I wrote about how we already have exactly what we need here. […]
